I've been using my Raspberry Pi 3b with retropie for a while and the main controllers I use for it is the Dualshock 3, the problem I have with it is that after a while it starts having ghost inputs because of how it's wired inside, I open them up, fix the issue but it always comes back after a week or two, so I'm getting kinda sick of it.  If the ghost inputs happen when a controller is wired then it comes down to an issue with the controller or an issue with the retropie software/driver. Sep 28, 2023 · Microsoft 3 &ndash; Best Bluetooth controller for RetroPie The Xbox One Wireless controller relies on a Bluetooth connection.  The only support provided here is for the official image.  Without a properly set up controller, even pixel-perfect arcade emulators can feel laggy, clumsy, and unplayable.  I use X for A, square for B, L1 for Z, left analog for n64 analog, left dpad for the yellow n64 buttons, L2 for n64 L, R1 for n64 R and naturally start for start :P Works fine for me with the most games, only somwe shooters are hard to learn, but thats cause of the ps4 controller architecture.  Make sure you have installed the driver xpadneo.  The only issue I have is I'm using an old pair of PS3 controllers that I had laying around.  It is a lovely responsive controller, really solid and just feels like a quality product in your hand - and as you note the battery life is almost unbelievably good.  Thanks that did the trick to reset the controller.  Make sure you are using the controller model 1708 (check the sticker in the battery compartment). Retropie Newbie question - I bought a Wii U Pro based on recommendations here and on other sites.  You could use a Nintendo Pro controller as well, or a PlayStation 3 controller and they'd work fine.  After that my 8bitdo pro 2 works brilliantly and it&rsquo;s the best controller I have ever purchased! Also NO DONGLE/ADAPTER NEEDED! This is the guide: 7.  I've connected Xbox controllers for many RetroPie builds and this method has worked consistently for me.  Now that key brings up a display if i press it.  On first boot you will be prompted to configure a controller in EmulationStation.  Wired controllers are not viable as I would need a 20 to 30 foot usb cable.  Also playing ps2 on retropie is not going to be a great experience.  The control mappings in RetroPie are based on the RetroPad controller, which technically does not exist. Dec 27, 2023 · Why Controller Setup Matters Controllers act as the interactive bridge between game and gamer. xml file.  Most emulators work except N64 as others have stated.  Other than those though, Xbox 360 (wired) or Xbox One controllers work really well.  Bear in mind that your Xbox controller needs to support bluetooth before these steps will work for you.  At least there is the Petrockblock sold by the Retropie developer.  In fact according to a RetroPie survey, over 58% of user complaints stem from controller connectivity or configuration issues. Basically you go into RetroPie setup, enable the drivers (they are already on the memory card as part of RetroPie, so you don't have to download anything), connect the controller, and then add a line to a text file to auto-start it on launch.  I would assume that wired controllers would be best but I have not much experience with retropie so I&rsquo;m not sure I use 8Bitdo.  It includes mappings for a lot of common controller brands such as 8bitdo, Playstation, XBox, Logitech, etc.  The emulate an external keyboard.  First of all, you need a recent generation controller with analogs (Xbox or PlayStation), or a USB N64 controller for a more authentic experience.  I have not tested the setup with multiple Steam Controllers but I think they should work in RetroArch without any changes to the config, and would only need to map the 2nd controller in ES if you want the 2nd controller to also work on the ES UI.  If youre willing to go wired imo the best controllers are the hori fighting commanders specifically for playstation 4, or the versus ps3/360 controller which has microswitches and similar dpad to the neo geo pocet theyre amazing and extremely affordable.  I faintly remember the wired snes buffalo controllers requiring a hardware fix but no idea about any other brands.  I have used PS3 and 360 controllers (both in wireless setups) with RetroPie even before the major upgrade, so you must be missing a step somewhere if they've suddenly started working.  You will need a Bluetooth compatible Pi to connect.  RetroPie allows you to turn your Raspberry Pi or PC into a retro-gaming machine.  My current setup is with a PS3 controller paired over Bluetooth and it works very well.  Thanks, I wanted to make a fully self enclosed type thing where you can open it up like a thick laptop and there&rsquo;s a container where you can just pull out controllers and play.  tl:dr: 8Bitdo controllers are high quality controllers that work well for RetroPie.  Use other images at your own risk!!! Unofficial images can and often are modified and locked down in ways that we cannot help you with via a forum.
